uninteresting update
May. 4th, 2004 02:47 amBeen spending most of the last couple of days wrestling with my Mandrake Linux 10 installation, which was just as challenging as usual but seems to have eventually been beaten into a state of usefulness. For anyone who doesn't know and might care, Linux is an alternative to Windows which basically means I get no crashes and no viruses but can only run about half of my software. :)
I've also been practicing guitar to the point where my left hand hurts, simply because I don't think that hand is strong enough and it needs the exercise! Songwriting's been going slowly anyway so practicing technique seems a reasonable alternative.
Weirdness is afoot today. Earlier I was browsing a Linux forum trying to sort out a problem with my graphics. At the bottom of the thread it says, "users viewing this topic: thedarkproject, my_dying_bride". Now, what are the chances of someone with a username taken from one of my favourite bands not just viewing the same Mandrake Linux forum as me, but reading my thread (among hundreds), and within a few minutes of me doing so? But that's not all. Later today I did a Google search for 'alsa aureal' when trying to sort out my sound card. I come across another forum thread which I read, and I see that one of the users on there calls himself 'the_whargoul'... and a song called Whargoul had just come on my mp3 player literally seconds before and was now playing. What's the chance of that song - out of a possible 690 on my playlist - coming on at the same time that I find 2 of the only 3 posts by a forum user with such a similar name, when viewing a single thread on a forum? It's a bit spooky.
In other news, I'm enjoying the warm weather. It brings back some bittersweet memories from this time last year, but nothing I can't handle with a sad smile and an eye on the future.
