Jun. 4th, 2004 09:55 pmI downloaded the demo of the Thief 3 game, and it appears that there's no way it will run on my computer because I only have Windows 98 SE. This is pretty disappointing, given that this is the 3rd instalment in a series that means quite a lot to me. I have no intention of installing Windows XP in the near future because I don't want to give Microsoft any of my money for the privilege of falling prey to all these viruses and security flaws that afflict the operating system.
In less serious news, last night I went out to my old university's Rock Society end-of-year party and ended up doing the Sonata Arctica Full Moon Dance onstage with 5 or 6 others. Much hilarity ensued and we got a modest round of applause. My performing career starts (and probably ends) here.
Not heard back about this new job yet. That had better happen next week or I'll not be too happy. I visited the university careers adviser on Thursday and found the woman there to be very unhelpful. Basically she said, "here's a booklet about 'IT Prospects', here's another booklet about the same thing, there's our list of vacancies, come back and arrange another appointment if you read all that and find nothing of use". Needless to say, booklets aimed at the typical 'graduate' who is looking for a career and is willing to move anywhere to achieve this are of zero use to me. The vacancies file was the same, with about 30 current vacancies in there and only 3 being local ones. So I'm a bit annoyed at that because I suppose I held some hope that they'd actually be useful. I always thought that I'd never fit into the normal employment system anyway. I just need to find an alternative method soon.
Oh, nice... there seems to be a power cut down the road... everything's blacked out from our next-door neighbours down to the main road. Hopefully all the annoying shits who live down there will have all their food defrost and the like. Somehow I am feeling parallels with 28 Days Later... if I leave my bedroom light on, eventually they'll spot that we're still alive and have power in here, and will come crashing into the house to kill the 'goths'. I suppose that once they bleed on us, we turn into pikeys too. And yes, I do realise that there are a lot of mental leaps in that analogy.
