Jan. 1st, 2005

Well, last year was shit. Let's see...

- Youths down the road tried to steal our stuff and got aggressive with me when I stopped them, then they broke one of our windows and attempted to intimidate us;
- Lost the deposit on the last house because we were unable to clear up the house properly, and the landlords were unreasonable about it;
- Ended up losing about half a pint of blood from one of my dental operations, and the dentist not taking me seriously when I told him;
- I had the stress of calling the police about a break in across the road, and then worrying about the criminals who got away but were seemingly aware that the police had been called on them by someone in the vicinity;
- I tried and failed to make amends with a friend, who went on to unnecessarily insult me in the process;
- Was unable to get any of the jobs I applied for in 9 months of trying, and was overqualified for one other;
- All the music I'd looked forward to in 2004, ended up being postponed to be released in 2005;
- I missed out on seeing Dark Tranquillity in London;
- my birthday, Christmas, and New Year effectively failed to exist;
- And my dog back home died. (Lists such as this require the obligatory "and my dog died". Sadly, this is actually true, also.)

On top of that there is a raft of other failures by omission, things I should have done but didn't due to laziness or lack of focus. These include the usual like getting decent on the guitar, working out what I'm gonna do for money when I finish this (largely useless) course, or developing some self-confidence.

I'm not even gonna look at the wider world and consider all the needless wars, ridiculous laws, mindless killings, and natural disasters, or I'd be ranting all night.

I had thought the last 4 months of 2003 had been bad, and that December I somewhat foolishly reckoned that 2004 couldn't really get worse. Yet, it did! So I won't be too hopeful this year, as life always manages to go one 'better'. But, we'll see!
