Jan. 9th, 2006 08:04 pmWhy do I always get this sort of person talking to me?
"(19:52:45) raladin2002: Well, I'm starting a new Games Company here in Dubai Internet City.. the investor is ready to pay any needed amount
(19:53:18) raladin2002: we want to make cool 3D games.. something to be a legend.. like Zelda
(19:53:35) raladin2002: I just wanted to know what are the things needed to put in the List of needs for that
(19:54:22) raladin2002: so please, if you can help me put an accurate list for that.. and if possible you know the costs..etc.. that includes the machines, people to work..etc"
The guy is apparently starting up a game company, but knows nothing about making games. Unsurprisingly, when he asked vague questions on the Gamedev.net forums, he got no helpful answers, so he's come to me with the same useless questions. Apparently I'm supposed to act as a full professional consultant to someone who doesn't have a clue what he's doing. For free. Over Yahoo Messenger.
Asking "well, do you have any idea about what are the needs for a 3D project (FPS)?" is like asking how long a piece of string is, and "well, what about the costs.. can you give me just an estimation of the costs for a person" is horrendously naive... how the hell should I know what people get paid wherever he is?
I hate people who hassle others to teach them instead of doing a bit of research themselves.
There's no other news here, really. I was late for work, and the train home from work was 38 minutes late so I was home too. Apparently, someone was ill on a train in Tamworth, which meant that all the trains from the west of the country to the east ended up half an hour late. What the fuck. I'm sick of commuting. Still, at least I finally got around to cancelling my NTL account, a mere 5 months or so after moving out of the house it's in.
And in completely unrelated news, I've decided to try a different approach to writing music as the way I've been doing it for the last couple of years just doesn't work, leaving me with about 10 hours of unrecorded music but only about 30 minutes of actual songs. Writing somewhat complex music seems quite difficult. I've no idea how anybody else does it. I could write an Iron Maiden or Nirvana type of song any time, but I wouldn't know where to start with a track in the style of Opeth or Dream Theater. I suppose somewhere there's a middle ground between the verse/chorus/verse and stick/random/bits/together approaches.
