Jul. 15th, 2009

It's seemed like a busy week, but I don't think it was. Last week I was mainly just at work and not doing much in the evenings, though I think I did see Charles, Andy, Danni etc on the Wednesday eve for a quick pint. I think the weekend was fairly quiet except for the Friday night pub visit where other people talked about second-hand cars and had shopping bags full of old shirts and other things that were a bit too surreal.

Monday was Granddad's funeral. Getting there involved a rather circuitous train journey via Tamworth but at least none of the trains were late, which makes a change. The service itself was very sad but such is the nature of these things. At least it was conducted by someone who knew him so there was a personal touch to it. The rest of the day was about as good as the circumstances allowed, and I was glad to get the opportunity to catch up with relatives, some of whom I've not spoken to in over 10 years. Most of us stayed around for a meal in the evening at Red Hot (which is far better in Northampton than it is in Nottingham, incidentally), and I got the last train back, this time via Birmingham and the usual tedious wait in the rather desolate station there.

There's not much other news to report really. Back at work I'm still trying to fix the same issue I've been working on for 3 weeks. At home I've been writing a bit more music that isn't for my main 'band', which is a lot easier to do now I've moved my MIDI keyboard onto my desk. And I found time to drop my guitar off at a guitar repairman, who says it'll probably cost £100 to beat my guitar into shape. Ouchie.

it's Wacken in 2 weeks. I haven't even started preparing, beyond arranging transport. It'll be good to get back into the middle of a field filled with like-minded individuals, and with no worries except finding my tent in the evenings.
