band stuff
Mar. 6th, 2010 11:26 pmRight, I haven't updated for a while. I may as well post stuff one topic at a time.
Our band recorded our first demo track with the our singer, which is up online at myspace.com/twilightsembrace. It took about 2 hours to record the vocals, not aided by my stupid USB sound interface randomly playing white noise, making it very hard to record with! It then took the best part of a day for me to cut and mix all the takes together, then several hours of fixing the overall mix and applying some semblance of mastering to it. There was a fair few hours spent replacing the old drum track with a much more natural-sounding one too, which was time-consuming. I think the overall result isn't too bad, and the feedback is generally positive so far. I would have liked the first song with vocals to have been one with more of the death growls and less of the normal singing but it was the first one we had lyrics for. Hopefully we can do another one or two this month, if people's schedules allow it.
It's a bit strange to be 'releasing' a song which I wrote 4 years ago. Hopefully this recent flurry of activity will translate into greater productivity on my part in organising the bits and pieces of music from the last couple of years into more finished tracks. What I write is definitely different in some ways but the older material does some things well that I seem to have forgotten how to do these days, so having a mixture to work with will be good.
We have our first gig in about a month's time, which should be 'interesting'. It should be fine, since we can play the songs well enough and they're not terribly demanding to perform, but you never know how things are going to go. I'll need to sort out how to use my new effects box in a live situation, I'll need to get the spare guitar ready for action, and I should probably change my main guitar's strings too... these ones went on in late July.
