weekend frolics

On Friday I went out, drank a small amount of cider, watched Allan and Dave's amusing Evanescence karaoke among others, came home, and woke at 6am to the worst headache I've had in years. If I'd known I was going to have that much pain I would have just drunk more in the first place. Ibuprofen and 3 pints of orange juice was consumed, and I was soon back asleep...
...until 11am when
vampiric_monkey phoned and woke me up. I had to then go to meet her to collect a DVD, which I duly took over to
markachu's games-and-bonfire event. I made it through a 5 hour gaming session without playing a single game, which is impressive. I ate some barbecued sausages and burgers and then slipped silently out in order to get on a bus to Liverpool with my student friends. I would have liked to stay at the bonfire longer, especially since I hear half my friends showed up after I left (though this was perhaps just well-planned on their part!), but there you go. I don't draw up the schedule.
Liverpool was funny, anyway. It certainly did seem as rough as its reputation would have it, but in 2 or 3 cases the locals' belligerence died off as soon as they realised we were from Nottingham, allegedly an even rougher city! The Krazyhouse (ie. club we ended up in) was as poor as I had expected, but at least I've seen it now. And seeing
yourapocalypse on the dancefloor for Cradle of Filth was perhaps only bettered in humour terms by our group's ironic extreme headbanging to Limp Bizkit. The whole adventure was a good laugh, apart from perhaps the annoying guy who I was sat next to on the return trip, who wouldn't take a hint to leave me the hell alone when I was trying to get some shut-eye.
Got to bed at 6am on Sunday, and got up in the early afternoon. I practiced guitar for the first time in weeks, and was just as useless at it as usual. Then I played Oblivion for my regular dosage of frustration, followed by talking to
_arnamentia_ on MSN up to the point where my hard drive died and wasn't found by the motherboard. Just like last time, this problem rectified itself later, making me think it's an overheating issue. It's still somewhat worrying, but I'd just taken a regular backup of my important data the other day, so I wasn't too concerned about losing anything. Except perhaps the so-called progress I'd made on Oblivion...
...until 11am when

Date: 2006-11-06 02:39 pm (UTC)I didn't think to check the event log but it's worth a look. Incidentally, WinXP dies just as badly as Win98 does when hardware is screwing up. I couldn't even get the task manager to come up during the last minute or so of operation before I hit reset.
Connections were fine last time, when I did check them for this reason. I don't think the drive would magically start working again on both occasions if it was a connectivity issue anyway.

Also we might be able to get stuff off it and backed up onto my portable 250GB USB drive before it dies of death if you like.
