Scoring of stuff I bought around last time:

5/5:
Doom:VS - Aeternum Vale
Agalloch - Ashes Against The Grain

4/5:
Morgion - Among Majestic Ruin
Sentenced - The Cold White Light

3/5
Crematory - Illusions, Awake, Transmigration, s/t - one of these is 3/5 and the others are 2/5, though I have no idea which is which
Iron Maiden - A Matter Of Life And Death
Sentenced - Down
Sentenced - Frozen
Hypocrisy - The Fourth Dimension

2/5:
Celtic Frost - Monotheist
Arch Enemy - Anthems Of Rebellion

1/5:
Lake Of Tears - BlackBrickRoad (not my sort of thing really)

...and stuff bought since then:
Amon Amarth - With Oden On Our Side - 5/5
Insomnium - Above The Weeping World - 4/5
Hans Zimmer - Gladiator sound track - 4/5
Draconian - The Burning Halo - 4/5
My Dying Bride - A Line of Deathless Kings - 3/5 or 4/5, not decided...
Turisas - Battle Metal - 3/5

My cd purchases are slowing down at the moment, with me no longer passing Reveal Records in Derby every day, and having cleared out Selectadisc in town of everything worth having. However, tomorrow [livejournal.com profile] ironlord should hopefully have 4 more cds from his bulk order for me:
SENTENCED - Crimson
SATURNUS - Veronika decides to die
LACUNA COIL - Comalies
AMORPHIS - Eclipse

Why do I type all this out? I don't know. I think it'll be interesting to look back and see if my tastes change over time.

I recommend the pirates of the Caribbean 2 soundtrack, if you liked Gladiator. Both stellar Zimmer works (the first film was a baudelt job, which was alright, but Zimmer has taken it to a new level.

Heh well I use to be quite a big fan (and of 1980's British grindcore in general!) but these days I find their earlier stuff a bit too simple. There's definitely some good tunes (I remember Embryonic Necropsy And Devourement being a particular favourite!) there if you can stand the bloody awful "recorded this in a garage" production. By earlier albums I mean albums before Necrotism which was really the turning point and their best work IMHO.

Not exactly a rabid fan of their old stuff, though I do enjoy spinning Pandemonium on me vinyl now and then...

I can't stop listening to Monotheist. It just sounds so WRONG! ANd that fucking guitar tone!

I can see why a lot of people won't/don't like it, as it's more Hellhammer than Frost, but it certainly pushes my buttons.

Sounds intriguing...will see if i can get some of their stuff. i started transcribing the track "Battle metal" a few weeks ago, but gave up after one line or so cos it was too hard. Might have another go when i get chance cos i'd quite like to be able to play it properly!

Hehe, yeah i've already agreed to do some stuff on my mate Steve's folk project! So yeah could be interesting at some point. I'm incredibly out of practise though so might be a while before i get good again!

Ooh great Saturnus & Amorphis albums you have coming your way! And yeah the Doom:VS album is a 5/5 for me too, was dead impressed with that.

Pass all the Sentenced cds in this direction please, stores here don't seem to be too keen on stocking them. :(

Yet weirdly enough, it's dead easy to find both Swallow the Sun albums, and no doubt the new one will have some big sticker on it saying 'Melodic European Black Metal FIVE STARS!' etc. Have they gotten really big or something? I'm sorta out of the loop.
