I think those 4 words tend to represent one of the biggest signs of mental weakness in people. I don't mean when applied to trivial things, which merit so little thought that it's easy to make a mistake. I mean when applied to personal beliefs or philosophies, and the important decisions we make all the time. And often share with our so-called friends. These things shouldn't be left to a couple of moment's thought here and there, only to be overturned by another couple of moment's thought in the near future. Yet, it would seem they are.

Too often, I've been told one thing by someone I trusted to tell the truth, only for them to do or say the opposite a short time later. And their only excuse is that they "changed their mind". How can you insist something is true for a year or more and then go and do the opposite, without some major event taking place that provided new evidence upon which a new opinion could be based?

It seems like people don't care if they tell you the truth. Or more charitably, perhaps they don't really know themselves well enough to be able to give an answer that won't change according to mood, situation, hormone level, temptation, or whatever.

One week, everything's fine, the next week, they've had a problem with you for months. One week, they don't want a relationship, the next week... they're in one. One week, going out and picking up members of the opposite sex makes them "feel sick", the next week, they do it anyway. How can I trust the word of someone who doesn't even know themselves properly? Why believe anything they say when they will hide behind the "I changed my mind" disclaimer when I later discover it to be untrue?

As if there weren't enough lies in the world already, people add to the pile of deceit by throwing in transient half-truths that don't mean a damn thing in the end.
Been cleaning up my internet bookmarks today. I ran a program called AM-DeadLink which tests them all for you and tells you which ones are dead. It's a little sad to see all these old sites I once visited are gone... obviously some have just moved but others have dropped off the net completely... like little species of information becoming extinct. I think some people think that nobody looks at their site, so they take it down... other people change ISPs or whatever and never re-upload their site... I suppose I have to start saving copies of things instead of just vowing to check back later.
