Luck, destiny, whatever
Sep. 30th, 2003 10:54 amSometimes things just seem to go strangely right, and for a brief moment I believe in fate. Last night was one of those rare times.
Friend #1 comes up to me outside the pub and asks if I know yet whether I'm going to the My Dying Bride gig in London on Halloween. I tell him that I am, if I can afford it. He says that his friend is driving down so I can have free transport there if necessary - a very useful offer when transport costs 3x as much as the concert ticket. We talk for a bit more about the gig, and I ask him who's supporting MDB but he doesn't know. He mentions his band 'Excarnation' who's cd is listed in the 'elite releases of 2002' in the newsletter I get sent by the online CD shop I use.
10 minutes later, Friend #1 has left and Friend #2, who I've not seen for a year or more, emerges from the pub and starts chatting to me about how his band recently got back from a four-week tour of America. He asks me if I've had any contact with Hamish from MDB recently (we used to go to the same college) and I told him I hadn't. Then, he mentions that his band are on Hamish's record label and are supporting them in October on the Halloween gig! It all falls into place; I've been on Hamish's record label website before and looked at this band (the only one currently signed to the label), and seen people talk about them ('The Prophecy') on ultimatemetal.com. I even downloaded an mp3 of theirs once to see what they were like. But I never realised it was my friend's band! Even though I should have pieced it all together before. Freaky. So we talked about his band, and how he has Greg from Paradise Lost's first keyboard in his bedroom back home, and about the fact that he could get me onto the guest list for the MDB gig...
So now I suppose I can see My Dying Bride for free, which is very cool. It also means a friend of mine is already on a record label which I could steer my 'band' towards in the long term, which could prove helpful. So all in all, a useful night.
