Surreal night. I'm finishing writing a computer program that creates pretend people, the local police helicopter is hovering in predatory fashion roughly 100m above our house, and there's black metal (roughly speaking) currently playing on mainstream television (Metal Hammer awards on ITV). Ace.
I managed to talk to bitch at my housemate today about him killing my internet connection through overuse of peer-to-peer software.

Me: "You can't have Emule and 2 bittorrents running at the same time"
Him: "There's just 1 bittorrent"
Me: "I just walked past your door and looked at your monitor. There's two."
Him: "Uhhmm... I'll go switch one off."

VoilĂ , my connection speed goes up from 5K/second (ie. dialup) to 50K/second (ie. what I pay for). Hopefully it'll last... I hate having to complain to my friends about what they're doing. But, there's only so much hassle I'm willing to take.

Today's news item highlighting real-world foolishness:
"Teachers do not teach enough": Teachers are being asked to spend too much time acting as therapists and social workers, according to the organisers of an education conference. They are expected to boost children's self-esteem [...] says the Institute of Ideas. Yup... I remember hearing from one of my brother's schoolteachers that she wouldn't mark his work wrong because it 'discourages them'. And I heard from somewhere else that they stopped using red pen due to the 'negative connotations'. Liberal teaching, breeding an underclass of scum near you.
