Anybody know much about hearing damage? We had a band rehearsal last Sunday and now my left ear has slightly duller hearing than the right. Fewer high frequencies coming through. This is odd because the amplifier was on my right, but there you go.

To be fair, the situation probably wasn't helped by attending the Hecate Enthroned gig in town yesterday evening. Noisy black metal in a small room never was renowned for its aural healing qualities. Hopefully it'll improve over the next day or so, as I think it was doing before last night. It's a little worrying however. Gonna look into getting some musicians' earplugs before the next practice though...

While I'm on the topic of health, I may as well mention that my nerve-damaged arm isn't much better, and the doctor (a different one this time), said it might get better in a few months, or it might never improve, and there's nothing that can be done about that. How irritating to think that I may have injured myself for life just by stretching my arm out once.

Back on the music topic: the rehearsal itself was merely alright. The drummer's not keeping time very well after months of not playing, and the guitarist only managed to learn 2 songs despite having almost 2 months to prepare for getting back into regular practices, but that's life, it seems. I suppose I'm not much better since I seem to have forgotten how to write songs.

On the other hand, the Hecate Enthroned gig yesterday was entertaining, although when a band of 35-year-olds feature a 20-year-old as their stand-in vocalist, it looks a little strange. Still, he did a great job, considering the demonic screeches he was expected to produce.

While there, it occured to me that more and more people are referring to me as "The other Ben" or "the other Death Metal Ben". 'The Other' wouldn't be such a bad monicker if it alluded to the malevolent wight-commanding beings from the icy Northern wastes in George R. R. Martin's 'A Song Of Ice And Fire' series, but sadly that is not the case. A campaign is hereby underway to at least term me 'Doom Metal Ben'. My first convert to this cause last night was 'UBR Dan', who no doubt sympathises because he could do with a more catchy nickname himself. (Unspecified Bit Rate Dan? Uniform Business Rate Dan?)

Further updates to come in the near future: computery things, including my experiences with the game Oblivion (months after everyone else posted about it), job news, and maybe other random stuff, including a sociopolitical/philosophical comment on liberty vs. security. Who knows. Countdown to internet access from home, assuming a degree of provider competence: 2 days.
