Well, there goes another summer. (And before anyone tries to tell me it's still summer, read this, as I don't want to have this discussion 4 times a year!) I had resolved to make the most of this summer, and failed spectacularly. I am of the firm opinion that you can't properly enjoy the summer if you're involved in full time employment. There just aren't enough hours in the day (or indeed, season).

I am currently living rent-free. This is because, despite the estate agents saying I had to pay my rent by standing order, they have not managed to get me a form to fill in for this, or the necessary details for me to fill in one of the bank's forms. I don't even know who my actual landlord is, though I do have an address for him/her/it (but no telephone number). I emailed them yesterday so hopefully they'll sort something out, though from my dealings with them, they just seem to dither and procrastinate over everything.

Went out again last night; it's like a jukebox. I pay £1 to enter, the DJ plays the same At The Gates and Arch Enemy songs, then I go home. Repeat 52x annually. At least one of the rooms didn't smell of vomit this week.

Time for a random links'o'goodness list:

Kiva - you can lend money to people in the developing world, supporting enterpreneurial attempts to work out of poverty. People you can help range from an Ecuadorean woman who works 14hrs a day selling perfumes, to Kenyan mothers selling steers to pay their children's school fees. You get repaid over approximately a year or so, apparently. Seems like an interesting alternative to regular charity, especially for anyone who has an ideological problem with just giving money away.

Google Book Search - I'm surprised this isn't more well known. Basically it's what you might expect - you can search within the text of lots of books, hopefully finding something relevant to buy. It seems to be quite good at it too. By comparison, the Amazon search just seems to be of the book titles, which is about 10 times less useful.

iColorFolder - Quickly change the colour of directory icons in Windows XP. Using it ends up looking something like this on the right. I'm sure I can find a practical use for it eventually. (On a related note, it's annoying that almost the only directory on Windows that it won't let me switch to a 'music' view, to show the relevant track information etc, is the 'My Music' directory that it creates for you. Only on Windows...)
