Started new job today; didn't die or anything, which is good.

Got home and heard Nine Inch Nails coming from my neighbour across the corridor, which presumably means I'm not entirely surrounded by trendies as I had previously feared. Hot water has been restored to my place too, after an absence of 3 days, so for that I am grateful.

Went out tonight, and the place was virtually empty of people I know, but full of loads of other randoms, which is good. Both the DJ and the guy-on-door addressed me by name as I was leaving, which was surprising. I guess the DJ has me as a friend on MySpace and might have remembered me from there. And the guy on the door might just remember when I came in last week and had my legion of fans screaming "Ben! Ben! Ben!" as I was queuing to pay. I wish I was making that up, too.

Anyone know a 'free-role-721' at hotmail 'dot' com? I've been MSN-added by them and I have no idea who it is. Why didn't MSN implement ICQ's adding system, where you can send a message with the request? Duh. I bet half of you heathens don't even know what ICQ is. Bah.
My second day on the new job went pretty well, although I'm sure it would have been frustrating if I didn't have [livejournal.com profile] lost_in_moose nearby to check things over for me and to fix the various problems. Instead, it is frustrating for him. ;) The quality of the code is a lot better than I expected, apart from the goto commands, which I'm assured came from the Other People working on the code base. Technically I work longer hours than I did at the last place, but I get to leave the house later and get back home earlier than before and that is what's important. The shorter journey combined with the flexitime is great, as there won't be any more times where I leave the house 5 minutes early, end up missing my bus or train, and getting glared at all day for being 45m late. With any luck I can actually get something appearing on the screen tomorrow, yay.

Must do something productive tonight, besides do laundry... write music? Fix and upgrade my web server? Get my wireless card working on the other Linux pc? Or something else? Answers on a postcard (or a comment).
