Mar. 11th, 2007

Well, within 3 hours of arriving back in Nottingham, I found out that someone had died on the street 300 yards from my house. I was glad to find out that it was a road accident rather than a mugging, though I'm sure that's no consolation to the victim's family. Apparently the driver didn't stop after hitting her, but did drive straight to a police station. People amaze me, and almost never in a positive way.

Then I went out, and had a reasonably good time, though not as good as I had intended. Mainly this is because I set out to do certain things, and then when the time comes, I remember that I actually don't know how to do them. People often tell me to 'try harder', but I often find myself in a position where I would like to try but have no idea what that involves.

On the way home, I saw two men arguing, and a woman nearby. One man walked off angrily and the female walked after him, shouting something. I had just walked past them to hear him say, "don't think I won't hit you". Seconds later I hear him do so, and soon one of the two men is on the floor being punched repeatedly by the other, while the woman is nursing her heavily bloodied face. A passing police van then pulls over and subdues the situation surprisingly easily. Madness. That particular area seems to have got more rowdy and perhaps violent since the trendy bar started putting more stuff on, it seems. Unsurprising.

On Saturday I tried and failed for the 4th Saturday in a row to find a copy of the new Swallow The Sun album. One of the 4 shops I checked had grown a new Swallow The Sun divider in the rack since last week, but had no cds to accompany it. Bah. I also went to the army surplus place to look for boots, and managed to pick possibly the worst weekend in weeks to do it, considering that the Notts County football team right next door to the army surplus place were hosting a match against local rivals Mansfield Town, meaning I had to negotiate large crowds of people chanting "MANS-FEE-OOOOLD". And the place didn't even have any boots in my size. Finding new ones is proving to be difficult.

In the evening I attended the GWAR and Evil Scarecrow gig at Rock City. In between them was a band called Murder One. I remember saying to someone that they were all noise and screaming, and that therefore [livejournal.com profile] fiendil would like them. Sure enough, afterwards I spotted him with one of their t-shirts. I was very happy to see Gwar, as they were one of the first bands I really got into, way back in 92 or 93. I don't listen to them any more really, and they played a set almost entirely based upon their latest album which I don't own, but the stage show was everything I had expected, which is what matters. I stayed around for the club night for a while afterwards - upstairs they've seemingly added new lighting (which I approve of) and podium dancers (which I disapprove of). They also seemed to have changed the music policy so that the same songs are played in all three rooms, but I'm guessing that was something to do with having bands on in two of the rooms for most of the evening.

Today has mostly been a lazy day, which it was never intended to be, but there you go. Tomorrow I'm back to work, where 'work' is 'real work', ie. not travelling down to some trendy spa town in the middle of nowhere. Hopefully I'll be working on something interesting this week, but we'll soon find out.
