Party time
Mar. 2nd, 2008 10:57 amEvery four years or so, we get given a Free Day. For many of us that sadly means an extra day of work for no reward. However, some of those crazy student types that I know had decided to have a party that evening, which could balance this out. I rounded up some people of compatible dispositions so that I wouldn't end up bored and sat on the stairs somewhere, and we headed over.
After a brief spell in the kitchen, Chris received a text from Fiona saying, "come upstairs. bring cool people". So, we went upstairs, where Pink was playing Draconian Times on vinyl. Yay! But it kept skipping about every 10 seconds! Boo! This was soon replaced with a mildly more cooperative Katatonia album, but by this point alcohol was starting to affect people. Susie managed to spill a fair amount of Fiona's wine onto my trousers by knocking it off the table with a miniature football that she was throwing at people. Chris also managed to be talking about
_arnamentia_ at the precise moment she arrived, leaning around the door to look quizzically at him - hilarity ensued.
Most of the rest blurs together, though I did chat briefly to Kat and less briefly
omghellokitty among others (what was that band you mentioned, Ben? It had the word 'wolves' in the name, I think?).
n0tasquirrel stalked up and down the stairs in search of 'loldrama', but hopefully didn't find much? Me and Chris resorted to rifling through what I think were her history books while she wasn't looking, because WE'RE SO COOL THAT WE READ HISTORY BOOKS AT PARTIES. I remember being coerced into consuming Skittle Vodka, which unbeknownst to me bubbles a lot when you drink it, leading to me almost exhaling it through my nose. Lesson learnt.
At about 1:30am there was the obligatory drunk-football-in-the-car-park which I went and attended for a while, though the wind was so strong that it was more like flying a kite than playing football. When I came back, Hannah spilled most of a can of lager down my other leg while trying to clamber past to go down into the cellar. Cheers. :P Oh, and I almost forgot, the return of the Nintendo Grindcore 'band' - still amusing, though definitely only something you need to witness once. At about 2:45am there seemed to be more comatose people than partying people, and I had long ago consumed my drink allocation, so I wandered off through the park and home.
The next day was to be similar. I went to town to buy cds from the new metal shop, but was slightly disappointed, perhaps because my particular taste is not well catered for except on internet shops. I did get a few things though, 2x Katatonia, Fear Factory, Emperor, and Callenish Circle, so that's ok, but I'll have no need to go back for months now. Then I went for a quick drink in the Sal with
_arnamentia_, bumping into Chris and Allan while there, before heading back to get changed for Party #2.
jen_whitewave and Allan showed up at 7:30pm and thence we proceeded to the abode of
darkwaveart, which is even closer to my place than
n0tasquirrel's was yesterday. Ah, the easy life. We immediately took up residence in the living room and pretty much stayed there while the cool kids congregated in the kitchen, some of whom I even knew - though they were outnumbered by the ones I didn't.
synphony was nearest us, and the conversation was like this for about an hour:
Other amusement came from flicking through the 'Freaks' book we found, though as Dan remarked, it did just seem to have too many Siamese twins and not enough in the way of other freakishness.
It was nice to be at a party where I was of about average age rather than being one of the older ones, though it made little difference because I didn't speak to anybody else anyway ;) One of the middle-aged women seemed strangely familiar though. Odd. I did say hi briefly to
chocolateandsex and
doctor_tron however, spoke to
infestchris a bit, and Allan got to see the legendary Trev, star of the Lucifarian video, so all is good. Home for midnight, sleep by 1am. I'm a good boy.
Today is, as yet, unscheduled. I need to write some music as I didn't do any yesterday, and maybe I should do some game programming, but mustering up effort for that is difficult. We shall see.
