Feb. 15th, 2005 02:16 pmI was supposed to get up at just before 9am today, but instead woke at just before 2pm. Go me! I didn't get to sleep early enough for a 9am start, unfortunately.
Part of this is due to my being engrossed in the 3rd book in the 'Song of Ice and Fire' series by George R. R. Martin. This story sets new standards for being evil and depressing, mostly by virtue of the fact that it kills off all the characters you come to like, and the bad guys always win. At least twice now I have found myself staring at the page in disbelief thinking, "you can't kill them!" And to think there are 3 more books in the series to come.
And on the other hand, something that is deliberately depressing and yet enjoyable and somewhat uplifting is the first Swallow The Sun album. I recommend it to anyone who likes My Dying Bride, old Paradise Lost, old Katatonia, Draconian, and so on. Don't be put off by the Roadrunner-esque name.
I went out at the weekend, only to find the various venues almost entirely dead, except for
fiendil and
lost_in_moose having their pool game hijacked by a drunk woman at the White Hart.
Today I need to do some grocery shopping, which is getting very boring, and enquire about travel times and costs for a potential trip back down to London tomorrow. This is probably in vain, but I have to give it a go.
