Another boring computer post, sorry
May. 14th, 2006 11:37 amI had every intention of using Windows XP in a safe and secure way, by only logging in under the Administrator account to install and remove software. But noooo. That's not practical, it seems. Some things require you are logged in as Administrator just to use them (eg. Thief 3!), and most of the others don't make a distinction between different users on the system (eg. Trillian). Of what I've installed so far, pretty much only Firefox and Winamp works the way it should so far (ie. 1 install, several sets of user settings). No wonder XP is spyware-ridden, if this is the state of affairs. Anybody know if it's worth persevering with the 2-account setup or not?
(PS. Thief 3's tutorial level is crap. I spent a good 10 minutes trying to work out how the hell the lockpicks work, and later on it gives you a bitch of a room to try and sneak across which is much too hard for a beginner. The interface also looks tacky compared to the previous games. Everything else is fine though, so far.)
