Sorry, more computer stuff
May. 15th, 2006 09:03 pmI just installed Fedora Core 5 Linux on this new PC, which is nice in that it actually installs and finds all my hardware, unlike Mandriva Linux 2006 which doesn't get past the 3rd screen when it chokes on my motherboard. Unfortunately Fedora Core doesn't do a damn thing out of the box: provide access to Windows drives? Nope. Play MP3s? Nope. Play DVDs? Nope. I eventually got it to at least give me read access to my 2nd Windows drive, but I need write access so that's absolutely useless. Maybe
njaard or
yaarg or one of my other vowelly-abundant and Linux-competent LJ friends can give me some hints. At least the networking is, er, working. Copying my MP3s across it to the new system is going to take another 45 minutes yet.
I played a bit more of Thief 3 last night. The lockpicking system is doing my head in at the moment, but everything else seems fine so far. It might not be as dark as the last 2 games, which is strange, but maybe that's just my monitor.
