Band by band:

Seven Years Dead - mid-era Machine Head meets Soulfly. Heavy but uninteresting. 2/5
Panic Cell - nu-metal with a Maidenesque edge. Good in places. 3/5
Humanity - Modern heavy metal with slight doomy and gothic edges, like a less classy Paradise Lost of 10 years ago. 4/5
Edenbridge - Austria's finest found sadly lacking. All the worst bits of Nightwish and Lacuna Coil in one pretentious package. 2/5
Evergrey - Gothic-tinged power metal, flawlessly rendered. It was great to see them get a rousing reception to their first British gig. 5/5
Balance Of Power - Morphed from the 80s hair metal several years ago to plain old heavy metal with a touch of power metal, and a very expressive frontman. 3/5
The Prophecy - Even better than I expected... the doom was doomy, and the fast bits were faster and heavier than on record. 5/5
Primal Fear - Judas Priest, the sequel. Unoriginal but what they do, they do well. 4/5.
Cruachan - I wanted to like this Irish folk metal band but there was too much folk and not enough metal. I'll stick to Primordial for now. 2/5
Sonata Arctica - Finnish power metal let down by a poor mix. I could personally have done without the ballads in the middle but the performance itself - another first on British soil - was flawless. 4/5
Children of Boredom Bodom - I like their power/black metal crossover but they're really not interesting enough to headline a festival like this. 3/5

Bands missed/carefully evaded: Rezin69, Intense, Nowhere Near The Garden, Gutworm, and Fourwaykill.

Random luminaries in attendance: Herman Li from Dragonforce, Martin Walkyier from Sabbat/Skyclad/The Clan Destined, Hamish from My Dying Bride (selling The Prophecy's cds).

Overall: possibly the best Bloodstock so far for discovering new bands, and in terms of overall quality, despite maybe having the least well-known line-up to date. 4/5 for the whole thing. :)
